The Garden Fork
the humble object, organic hearty & reliable. Hand in hand we create our kingdoms.
What started as a 'typology' and as a failed University assignment, has become much more about environmental portraiture; combining both the landscape & the object which helps upkeep & craft that very landscape. It is about the human connection between the two, the hands & an innate & often overlooked connection, a dialogue.
After failing the 'typology' my tutor had said they would look lovely in 'Home & Garden'.. unsure whether to take that as compliment or insult. There was no particular reason I had chosen the garden fork as the object to study, considering I didn't own one or a garden. In hindsight it was a strange choice. Although as I later found out, my grandfather had been part of a Sheffield Steel factory before the war & had manufactured the humble garden fork. I then photographed my parents garden implements, handed down from my grandparents the garden is a huge part of their lives. Using 5"4" plate camera I photographed them amongst the memories of my childhood.
These collections are both available to purchase, please contact me for bespoke service & framing.
Secondly, a more unique service is available also, I would arrange with yourselves , 4 times throughout the year when it is suitable to visit your garden & photograph your loved garden tools through the seasons, in the landscape in which they have crafted. I then suggest working together to frame them in way to suit your decor. Please contact for me for further details.
